chasing and repousse tools, hammer and punches, copper set in pitch, skull and image in background

ecdc is…

focused on making handcrafted artwork using many materials and techniques, but with a particular focus on copper. These works are primarily produced using chasing and repousse techniques. Hammering copper OVER PITCH, USING PUNCHES OF NUMEROUS SIZES AND SHAPES ALLOWs THE FORMATION OF FLAT COPPER SHEET INTO RECOGNIZABLE IMAGES. Trained as a furniture maker, I look forward to bringing this process, as well as other copper manipulations into one-of-a-kind works.

  • I occasionally take on commissions based on suggested subject matter though not usually based on specific images, for various reasons. It doesn’t hurt to ask, though.

  • Commissions fulfillment depends on how many pieces I have in the queue. Once started, it take usually a month to complete the copper relief, patina and create a frame, though actual time depends on subject, size, frame style, etc. I don’t guarantee a specific date, things take what they take. If I don’t like the way a piece comes out, I start over.

  • Mainly I am looking to integrate these techniques into more involved woodworks, as in specialty cabinets and doors, and etched copper table tops, etc. Additionally, I am exploring copper etching for printmaking purposes. Time will tell where that goes.
